Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov has signed a decree to create a special economic area in Moscow. This will be a technical and promotional economic area. The decision was made in accordance with the Federal Law "On special economic areas in the Russian Federation," the government's press service said.
Any kinds of economic activity can be performed in the Moscow special economic area except those banned by the Federal Law on special economic areas.
Annual rent for land used by operators in technical and promotional special economic areas shall not exceed 2 percent of cadastral value.
The Russian government asked the Economy Ministry to sign an agreement with the Moscow administration on the creation of a technical and promotional economic area in Moscow.
On Thursday, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov signed decrees on creating six special economic areas in six separate regions of Russia, Economy Minister German Gref said at a government meeting on Thursday.
Four technical and promotional areas would be set up in Zelenograd (microelectronic design), Dubna in the Moscow region (nuclear and physical technologies), St. Petersburg (information technology) and Tomsk (development of new materials). The industrial and production areas will be set up in the Lipetsk region (manufacturing of household electronics and perhaps furniture) and Yelabuga in Tatarstan (production of car parts and hi-tech petrochemical products).
